The Yummiest Bank of All

Emmanuelle moureaux architecture + design's cheerfully stunning Sugamo Shinkin Bank’s Shimura branch in Tokyo embodies the credit union’s motto “we take pleasure in serving happy customers.” The façade’s twelve-layer horizontal stack of colours was designed to welcome visitors and reflect on the building’s white surface, an uplifting, rainbow-like pile of colour. emmanuelle moureaux architecture + design also handled the branch’s interior design, creating a playful and refreshing space. Elliptical skylights ensure that the interior space is full of soft, natural light, which Emmanuelle Moureaux hopes will invite customers to gaze languidly at the sky and take deep breaths.
