The new Dulux World of Colour brings an extensive range of colours together in four brand new design tools for designers, architects and specifiers.

With 245 new colours in the improved Dulux World of Colour Atlas and Fandecks, a whole new world is open to design professionals.

At the core of the Professional Specifier’s tool kit is the Dulux World of Colour Atlas, showcasing over 4,650 colours in new sections for Whites and Neutrals, Bolds and Brights, Greys and Pastels, and a journey through the Dulux Colours of New Zealand.

To accompany the updated Atlas, 50 new colours have been introduced to the Dulux World of Colour Fandeck, offering brilliant colour choices in a simple to use format.

Dulux has also developed two brand new standalone Fandecks: a Whites & Neutrals Fandeck featuring 160 shades of whites, and the locally inspired Red Heart Blue Shore Fandeck debuting 90 new colours.

Dulux Australia Marketing Manager Colour, Gavin Gilligan, said design professionals will be able to “hold a world of colour in the palm of their hands” with the latest most comprehensive colour ranges and tools in the world of decorative paint.

“We conducted focus groups with some of the industry’s leading professionals, and from that research the new colour tools were developed to make it easier for design professionals across Australia and New Zealand to specify the right colour for every project with confidence.

“One of the key outcomes from our research was the brand new Red Heart Blue Shore Fandeck, offering colours that are truly Australian, inspired by the passions and places that colour Australia, from Mukinbudin to Merimbula, and cricket to the great Aussie backyard,” Gilligan said.

With 90 new colours displayed as a full blade of colour, the Dulux Red Heart Blue Shore Fandeck gives design professionals even more scope when specifying colours for projects.

Industry professionals who are familiar with the importance of specifying paint for projects are two of Australia’s most respected design professionals – Debbie Ryan, principal of one of Australia's well known architectural practices, McBride Charles Ryan, and principal of the internationally acclaimed Carr Design Group, Sue Carr.

According to Ryan, who is passionate about the use of colour in projects, the Dulux Atlas and Fandecks are valuable tools when it comes to project design.

“Our job is composition. Every project we work on has a unique client, brief, location, site and budget limitations, and therefore, requires a bespoke colour scheme. The Atlas and Fandecks bring something meaningful to this process, helping us create something unique and delightful every time,” she said.

McBride Charles Ryan was recently nominated for the 2011 Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) with the PEGS (Penleigh Essendon Grammar School) Junior Boys School, which Ryan said demonstrates how colour is integrated into the design process from the very beginning.

“We use our expertise of space, form and aesthetics to create the overall design for our clients. For the PEGS project, the ground floor is colourful and earthy, while the first floor is more cloud-like and ethereal. The contrast between the two levels takes students on a journey of imagination.

“With so many factors to consider for any one project, we look to Dulux for the latest colour tools and paint products to make our job simpler. The Dulux World of Colour, with its wealth of colours, helps us do this,” she said.

For Carr, the use of colour in the design process is often subtle and always functional, meaning whites and neutrals that feature in the new Whites & Neutrals Fandeck play a large role in her design development.

“It might seem subtle but when neutrals are part of the whole design, the overall effect can be very strong. Colour plays an important role in design, whether in the perception of space, building form, way finding, ambience or brand image,” she said.

Carr said this means specifying the right shade and product is a critical part of the design process.

“The quality of paints, availability of a wide colour palette and specifier tools has been instrumental in Carr Design Group specifying Dulux within our projects. It’s important for our clients we create designs that will stand the test of time – both aesthetically and practically – and this is achieved by working with companies like Dulux,” she said.

The brief for Carr Design Group’s recent project, the Norton Rose office in Canberra, was to create a progressive, innovative workplace. An intelligent colour palette was utilised to portray the global brand, and to balance the professional front of house with more colourful, informal areas. It was also utilised for way-finding throughout the workspace.

The brand new Dulux World of Colour Atlas and Fandecks are now available for specifiers, architects and designers to purchase. Every colour, including the brand new Red Heart Blue Shore colours are named, have a simple code and are listed in the Dulux World of Colour Atlas for a quick and easy way to identify colours.
