Australian designers and design students have the chance to align themselves with industry greats such as Ronen Joseph, Antonio Citterio, Dieter Sieger, Norman Foster and David Chipperfield by entering in Reece’s bathroom innovation award (BIA).
The BIA was initiated four years ago to encourage original and outstanding bathroom product design. The award supports the national design industry by providing extra opportunities for Australian designers, both professional and students designers to explore the boundaries of innovation and expression in the form of beautiful, functional bathroom products.
The award is divided into two categories: students studying design / architecture / industrial design and professionals working in the field of design or architecture.
Prizes include $10,000 cash for the winning student, as well as $5,000 for the institution at which the winning student is enrolled, and $20,000 cash for the winning professional.
The BIA requires entrants to design a bathroom product including tapware, showers, toilets, baths, vanity basins and bathroom furniture, with the chance to have their design commercially produced by Reece.
A panel of industry leaders has been selected to judge the BIA comprising:
All finalists’ designs are considered by Reece for manufacture, and a decision is made based on each design’s feasibility and water compliance.
Reece’s CEO Peter Wilson says “Reece is an Australian business committed to innovation and the Australian design industry. The Bathroom Innovation Award showcases creativity whilst recognising and rewarding design excellence”.
Entries close on Friday 7 November 2008 and the winners notified on Thursday 11 December 2008.
