Carpet Installation Revolution Offers Sustainable Versatility

A revolutionary new system will cut the environmental impact of modular carpet installation by up to 90 per cent.

InterfaceFLOR’s TacTiles adhesive squares bond modular carpet tiles together without the need for liquid glue, InterfaceFLOR’s Australian General Manager Clinton Squires said today.

“TacTiles herald a new generation of sustainable installation systems,” Mr Squires said. “TacTiles contain no liquid components, eliminating the issue of volatile organic compounds, so they can be installed anywhere at any time, even in an occupied space.”

Mr Squires said TacTiles were another step in InterfaceFLOR’s Mission Zero – a pledge to eliminate any negative impact the company may have on the environment by 2020.

“We’re expecting a lot of interest in TacTiles from design professionals. As a whole, there is a great commitment by the industry to become more environmentally responsible,” Mr Squires said.

Mr Squires said TacTiles allowed professionals to easily replace, remove or recycle carpet tiles quickly and simply.

“TacTiles ‘weld’ modular tiles to each other and not the floor, allowing designers to change a carpet’s appearance without damaging the floor beneath. It is suitable for use on delicate or heritage floors, including wood, granite and marble.

“The adhesive used on TacTiles allows for the vertical movement and repositioning during installation, and within a few hours forms a bond with the backing that makes them virtually immovable on a horizontal plane. Even under the heaviest foot traffic there is no shifting or separation.

“Because the adhesive component is formulated to release on a vertical plane, the tile peels easily away.”

The launch of TacTiles in Australia comes after three years of development and more than 90 test sites throughout North America and Canada.
