Industrial designers tread a fine path pursuing a balance between form and functionality. Yoshioka produces artworks with application, as demonstrated by the fact his work appears in both Swarovski stores and the permanent collections of New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Paris’ Centre Pompidou and London’s Victoria & Albert Museum. His designs are influenced by ethereal processes like baking bread and traditional Japanese paper art. When coupled with the use of materials as diverse as medical-use fibre, glassine paper and drinking straws, the resultant creations are idiosyncratic and emotive. Yoshioka’s established products include corporate spaces, chairs, lamps and watches.
