Unlike past research, today methodology is the centre of interest. The analysis of the parameters and its effect on the result is essential for the success of the research.

Have you ever asked yourself what shape a drop of water should be to minimise evaporation, on its way from a dishwasher wash arm to the plate to be cleaned? Hobart Food Equipment’s parent company Illinois Tool Works (ITW), has a team of more than 100 experts in various disciplines operating out of the ITW Technology Centre, and yes, they do know the shape! Why? Because the shape of a drop is critical to minimise the loss of energy and thus reduce the total water, energy and cleaning agent consumption of each dishwasher. And therefore reducing each machines environmental footprint and operational costs.

Open minded thinking and constant open communication at the ITW Technology Centre prevents the development of barriers between the different disciplines. This work ethic has resulted in more than 100 HOBART patents over the last few years. Among the first developments when researching a new nozzle to reduce the consumption of hot-setting adhesive for an ITW subsidiary, was a design for a nozzle which tended to “fan out” on the surface. This was found to be useless for adhesives, but brilliant for dishwashers! This “invention” was researched further and finally the now patented Hobart OPTIRINSE swing nozzle was invented. Outcome - OPTIRINSE reduces water consumption, as well as, energy and cleaning agent by 50%.

The development of the Hobart fresh water rinsing 50PERCENT (patent pending) has stemmed from the OPTIRINSE “invention” and is one of the success stories which encourages us to aim higher. Washing without water is not possible, but through the combined initiation of the research project REWARD-Research on Energy, Water and Cleaning Agent Reduction we aim to reduce the consumptions of our machines by a further 50%.

ECONOMIC - CLEAN

With the PREMAX FTP dishwashers, Hobart’s 50PERCENT fresh water rinse utilises precision nozzles creating a precise thin film of rinse water on the wash items. This has been researched and found to remove all detergent residue plus giving the huge benefit to the operator and the environment of up to 50% water savings. How do we do it? We not only rinse the wash ware like traditional machines - from above and below, but now also laterally - greater precision and resulting in up to 50% savings in water consumption.

The flow on effect is even greater. Less water to be heated plus less rinsing agent due to less water consumption equals operator savings previously not available.

EFFICIENT - ECONOMICAL

Due to Hobart’s new patented LOW-CHEM detergent saving device and combined with lower water consumption has resulted in reductions of up to 80% compared with conventional systems - savings for the operator and better for the environment.

EFFICIENT - OPTIMAL

A conventional conveyor dishwasher loses about 40% of energy available in the machine via sensible and latent heat emissions. Through the development of the TOP TEMP energy management system energy losses - and costs are reduced by up to 30%.

To go even further in energy management Hobart developed EFFICIENT which reduces the energy losses caused via evaporation in the PREMAX FTP series. The newly patented and purposely oriented wash nozzles create a 65% wider spray pattern that does not collide with the spray pattern of the next wash nozzle. As a result - no collision realises maximum energy generated by the wash pump is passed onto the point of contact with the wash item. This subsequently creates less turbulence in the wash chamber with the follow on affect of reduced - up to 25% - energy loss.

EFFICIENT - FAST

The washing is a result of the cooperation between temperature, time, mechanical and chemical action, with the greatest influence being from the temperature. Conventional dishwashers wash at approximately 60oC. The Hobart PREMAX FTP dishwasher with the washing HOT-TEMP first washes the wash items at 67oC, which increases the efficiency of the detergent and means the wash ware becomes “cleaner faster”

The “cleaner faster” benefit is simple - an increase in throughput capacity of 40%. This increase realises a reduced internal and external space requirement for the machines.

CLEAN & DRY

The combination of the 3 patented systems - RINSE TRI pre rinse, pumped rinse 80DEGREES and GUIDEAIR directional drying system - ensures that the Hobart PREMAX FTP dishwasher 100% sanitises and gives the best possible drying result - this includes perfect drying results for hollow items such as cups, bowls and glass ware.

PROTRONIC control - Switch the PREMAX FTP on or off - all other functions are automatically assumed by the control system.

Cleaning manager 360DEGREES - The optional 360DEGREES nozzles are mounted on the inside rear wall of each wash module and facilitate easier and faster cleaning at the end of each wash period.

Wash arms - simply slide in or out thanks to the simple drawer mechanism.

Alligator flap - allows for easy operator access for the removal of waste and cleaning - no drawers or panels to remove - full access.
