The recent use of Ritek’s wall and ceiling systems in two luxury Queensland projects is all the proof you need as to the high quality, ease of installation and cyclone-resistance of Ritek’s product range.
HAMILTON ISLAND STAFF ACCOMMODATION
Hamilton Island Resort recently underwent a $12 million upgrade, including 64 staff accommodation units housed in two buildings. Australia’s leading remote area specialist, Ricon, took on the project, and chose to use Ritek® wall and roofing systems for their suitability and practicality in the complicated conditions. Principal of Ricon, John Jenkins described the decision to use Ritek® products thus: “Being on an island in a remote location, the project presented unique challenges. The site was quite rugged and the island experiences tropical weather conditions so we needed to utilise a building system that was quick, easy and could stand up to the environment. We chose Ritek® Building Solutions to supply the products for the building because of the significant benefits it provided to the project,” Jenkins said.
Ritek® walls are also thinner than - and yet just as structurally and acoustically stable as - traditional methods, resulting in approximately 5% more floor space for the Hamilton Island staff accommodation project. The innovative composite stud and track system of the Ritek® XL Wall creates strong panels that are lighter than conventional metal framed walls, safer and easier to install, more durable, and non-corrosive.
The majority of the walls in the Hamilton Island project were built using the Ritek® XL Wall System, from the structural columns in the sub-basement right through to the walls in the bathrooms.
TINGEERA APARTMENTS, HERVEY BAY
Comprising 40 luxury apartments, with ocean views to Fraser Island, the $13.7 million Tingeera Apartments on the esplanade at Pialba in Hervey Bay, Queensland, are another prime example of the superiority of the Ritek® product.
As Keith Ball of developer Bellero Constructions explained, the original building design contemplated traditional block construction, until the client expressed an interest in the Ritek® alternative. “The benefits of the Ritek® products were so significant that we used them in both the structural and non-structural elements throughout the building,” Ball said.
“We saved 14 weeks on construction time which resulted in huge dollar savings. Major savings were also made in areas such as cranage and scaffolding. Another tangible benefit was having a clean site throughout construction, which meant a safer workplace. We’ll be specifying the Ritek® products again for sure!”, he said.
According to Peter Kelly, Ritek® Research and Development Manager, traditional building methods are no match for the Ritek® products. “Comparing building systems (Ritek to block), one pack of Ritek® wall panels replaces multiple pallets of blocks, wheelbarrows, cement mixers, and the need for plasterboard...basi less project costs - making Ritek® the right choice,” he said.
