The comfort levels of building occupants is a growing concern in modern business. The traditional means of exhausting heat or fumes from a building was either high cost mechanical ventilation, or turbine ventilation, whose performance is directly tied to the prevailing winds.

CSR Edmonds has spearheaded the first major breakthrough in ventilation technology in over fifty years with the development of its globally patented ecopower.

The ecopower is a hybrid, the world’s first truly energy-efficient mechanical and wind-driven turbine. It uses the design of the highly successful Edmonds Hurricane wind-driven ventilator and incorporates an exclusive German electronic commutating motor in the ventilator head. This means that the bearing system of the motor forms the bearing system for the ventilator.

The design enables the turbine to run freely on wind power alone, or use both energy modes simultaneously for fully reliable ventilation. Both modes separately and together are highly efficient. The ecopower has no fan blade and motor assembly in the throat, obstructions which can reduce flow rate under wind power by 40% or more. It uses one large centrifugal fan, with a weight less than 18kg and noise levels less than 50dB(A) at three metres, and runs on low voltage or single phase power only. Its performance is as high as 45m3/hr/watt.

The ecopower can be controlled digitally by any measure, such as time, temperature, humidity, or gas (VOCs) concentration.

The ecopower is suitable for a variety of applications, including:

• Constant background ventilation with surge capacity (three times the normal wind-powered exhaust rates) to meet sudden demand requirements, such as a sudden hot spell with low wind velocity or a large gathering of building occupants

• High capacity night purge of buildings to enable thermal mass to quickly absorb the cooler air

• A quiet and more energy efficient centifugal fan replacement for noisy acial fans

• Control of gas concentration in enclosed areas, using relevant control measures

• Improving comfort levels and air quality for building occupants in commercial buildings, schools or factories.

CSR Edmonds is Australia’s leading manufacturer of industrial and domestic wind turbine ventilators and low voltage powered ventilators. These ventilation systems are designed to improve air quality and reduce temperatures inside buildings, while being economical and environmentally responsible.
