A Greener Approach from HB Fuller: Environmentally Friendly Adhesives & Sealants

Everyone has a role to play in preserving the environment; thus HB Fuller has released a series of sealants and adhesives that are both sensitive to the user but also sensitive to the environment.

THE GREENER APPROACH

The following chemicals are not found in the Fuller products listed: Isocyanates are commonly used in sealants and adhesives to create durable products by reacting with moisture. However, they can also cause allergic reactions similar to asthma, and a staining of the skin called ‘Black Hand’ in the flooring installation industry. VOCs are major causes of internal and external air pollution. The new Green Building code requires 5% or less VOC content to comply with 5- star standards. Solvents are often used in large quantities in polyurethane adhesives, and in lesser quantities (>1.5%) to achieve tooling, film-forming and flow properties. All of Fuller’s environmentally friendly products listed here are isocyanate-free, with less than 5% VOC and low solvent content, for the wellbeing of the user as well as the environment.

FLOORING ADHESIVES

Ideal for bonding timber flooring to any subfloor, Fuller’s FLOOR BOND MS and FLOOR BOND XMS Flooring Adhesives are an environmentally friendly alternative to standard polyurethane floor adhesives, forming stable, easy to trowel peaks, especially in cold temperatures. They do not stain hands during or after use, and because they do not contain water, will not deform timber flooring like traditional polyurethane flooring adhesives.

SEALANTS

The SUPERSEAL HPR25 hybrid polymer rubber sealant is low modulus and highly flexible, with a +/- 25% joint movement capability, so it is ideal for sealing joints that experience significant expansion and contraction.

The SUPERSEAL HPR50FC adhesive sealant on the other hand is high modulus and fast curing, making it ideal for sealing joints in trafficable areas. Fuller’s TOOL BOX Adhesive & Sealant is an all-purpose product that sticks and seals almost anything. TOOL BOX has very high initial grab, rapid skinning and fast curing on almost any surface: from tiles and mirrors to metals, timber, plumbing and roofing.

For sealing expansion joints in residential construction and tiling work, it’s hard to go past Fuller’s Caulk In Colours Acrylic Sealant. Water-based and mildewresistant, Caulk In Colours is the market leader in caulk sealant. Flexible, with a +/- 20% movement capability, it won’t crack, peel or split over time, and is available in a range of popular multipurpose colours including white, cream, light grey, cedar, warm brown and black.

For added versatility, SUPERSEAL HPR25, SUPERSEAL HPR50FC, TOOL BOX and Caulk In Colours are all suitable for use in both interior and exterior applications.

FIRESOUND Fire Rated Acoustic Sealant is a water-based, fire rated sealant that is ideal for sealing joints to form a barrier against fire and sound incursion.

FIRESOUND complies with AS1530.5-1990 (up to 4 hour fire rating), has excellent acoustic properties, is paintable and good flexiblity (+/-20% joint movement capability).

MAX BOND FAST GRIP CONSTRUCTION ADHESIVE is a water based product with fast adhesion & very fast initial grab. FAST GRIP is a multi-purpose construction adhesive that has high bond strength and is ideal for installing wall panelling, architraves and skirting boards to timber flooring.
